Tackling TB among hard-to reach groups in London
Who we help
We specifically focus on helping hard-to- reach groups of people such as the homeless, those living in hostels, squats or on the streets and/or those with drug and alcohol problems. These factors not only put these people at a higher risk of developing TB, but also mean they are less likely to be able to follow a regular treatment programme once they are diagnosed.
For the purposes of our work, TB Find and Treat defines hard-to–reach groups as follows:
Homeless
Rough sleepers
London hostel resident
No fixed abode (e:g sleeping on someone’s sofa/floor)
Temporary housing (e:g interim council accommodation)
Prisoners - Sentenced or on remand in a London prison
Problem* drug and alcohol users
Street drug users, especially crack/cocaine, heroin, amphetamine, and other illicit drugs
* where the habit is likely to affect the ability to attend appointments and take regular medication
Plus any people who persistently drop out of, or disappear from, follow up courses of treatment
